Great Southern Percussion was created in 1990, marketing percussion products servicing the southeast United States. After moving to northwest Georgia in 1990, and three years of doing business, it became apparent that a full-service music store was needed in the rapidly growing Cartersville community. That was when Great Southern Music was born. In 1993, we became a family oriented music store with lessons in all instruments, instrument repair and band instrument rental as well as combo shop, and sound system installations.
With all the contacts Kim had in the music business, he launched a music store based on the principles of honesty,character, and even dealings along with stressing music education and lessons. The emphasis is on "education through musical
We moved to West End Commons in October 2011 was facilitated by an overwhelming percentage of our students living on the west side of Cartersville and to take advantage of an opportunity for more comfortable and complete environment
Our recent move to Hickory Springs in October 2017 provided our store with the opportunity to downsize on un-needed floor space while maintaining the size and number of lesson rooms available for teaching music.
Kim Lloyd, President and CEO
This store was started in 1982 by Kim Lloyd. As the former Director of the Suncoast Sound Drum and Bugle Corps (Clearwater Florida), he was frustrated by the lack of appropriate hardware that would improve the performances of his drum line. He designed and began manufacturing shoulder mounted drum carrier-Competitive Music Inc. CMI carriers were sold worldwide, during this time Kim also served as a judge with Drum Corps International. CMI carriers included snare, bass and multi -tom carriers.The United States Marine Corps and USAF Drum and Bugle Corps were some of his customers along with many bands and Drum and Bugle Corps.
